Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were established on August 27, 1992.The key points that determine the level of relations include the Agreement on Strategic Partnership and Allied Relations, signed in 2005 in Baku, which became the first strategic document that highlights the deep roots of friendship and allied relations between the two countries. In particular, the Declaration on Strengthening Strategic Relations and Deepening Allied Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan and the Comprehensive Program for the Development of Cooperation for 2022-2026 are essential for future relations. More than 100 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents have been signed between our countries to this day. Both countries participate in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TURKPA) and the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY).
It should be emphasized here that there is a great potential in the context of bilateral economic cooperation. For example, there has been a steady increase in trade volume over the past few years. For example, in 2022, the volume of mutual trade between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan amounted to $549.8 million, almost five times exceeding the same figure for 2021. More than 80 Kazakhstani companies are permanent exporters to Azerbaijan of their products, including oil and petroleum products, metal products, construction materials, chemical raw materials, wheat, etc. Following the results of the Trade and Economic Mission of Commodity Producers of the Republic of Kazakhstan held in Baku on June 7, 2022, its Kazakh participants signed 8 export contracts with Azerbaijani partners totaling more than $38 million. In turn, Azerbaijan invested more than $200 million in the non-resource sector of Kazakhstan's economy during 1995-2021.There are also 159 companies operating in the country with the participation of Kazakhstani capital, engaged in the fields of construction, trade, services, agriculture and transport. Thus, the Kazakh-Azerbaijani relations demonstrate quite positive dynamics and, in turn, this contributes to their expansion in a number of existing and promising areas in the future.
