On November 23, 1992, diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan were established. The fundamental international legal documents of bilateral relations are the Agreement on eternal friendship between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan (October 31, 1998) and the Agreement on strategic partnership (June 14, 2013). Currently, there is an extensive legal framework with more than 100 international, intergovernmental, and interagency agreements. In a multilateral setting, parties interact actively within the framework of international and regional organizations (UN, OSCE, ECO, OIC, CICA, CIS, IFAS, OTS). Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan collaborate on projects and programs involving mechanical and electrical engineering, food industry, tourism, transportation, and logistics.
On December 21, 2022, Tashkent hosted the fourth Interregional Kazakh-Uzbek Business Forum, which resulted in signing of 40 memorandums on investment, trade, and economic cooperation with the value of approximately $2.5 billion. Both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are committed to expanding trade and economic cooperation over the next years. More than 38 projects reaching a total of $2.2 billion and creating about 11,000 jobs are planned as part of the industrial cooperation program between the two governments. Currently, ten joint projects have already been carried out, with half of these projects located in Kazakhstan.
Moreover, there are 1,109 enterprises with the participation of Kazakh capital in Uzbekistan, the number of which has doubled since 2019. This is more than 60% of all joint ventures with the participation of capital from Central Asian countries and 8% of the total number of enterprises with foreign capital in Uzbekistan. Trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties are all maintained at a high level of cooperation between the two countries.
